AQA: POWER AND CONFLICT

Are you a bit shaky on the poetry unit?

What if you could transform your knowledge and skills in 8 weeks?

I'm running an  8 week course - I'll cover all 15 poems and all the skills you need to practice to ace this part of the exam.

Each week's seminar focuses on a different poems - building detailed analysing and developing links across the course.  All the poems have their own teaching video for students to watch before they come to class, ensuring they know the key details and are ready to discuss their ideas.

Work is set and marked each week - I focus on short assignments that build skills specific to each student and set two essays to be completed at a point that suits their individual timetables.

Week 1: Power in personal relationships

  • My Last Duchess

Week 2: Power & Corruption

  • Ozymandias  & London

Week 3: Conflict & War (1)

  • Charge of the Light Brigade & Exposure

Week 4: Conflict & War (2)

  • Bayonet Charge & Kamikaze

Week 5: Memory and Trauma

Some of my recent reviews:

"I find Robyn very approachable and encouraging in our lessons, and she’s never boring - I don’t sit there and wish for it to be over! 😁 I really like the little feedback videos she sends, because they help me understand how I can improve. The sessions are good for revision and help me feel more confident."

"Your pre-session presentations are brilliant for her; she's really pleased with the comprehensive notes and annotations she gets from them but also how it means there are fewer surprises in the sessions."

"Having attended the free Macbeth webinar, my Y11 was keen to sign up for the poetry course as she liked Robyn's style. Robyn's pre-session videos in particular are an excellent resource as they have given my daughter a steer on the direction the webinar is likely to take which she has really appreciated, especially after a full-on day at school. Tips throughout the sessions, the feedback offered on written tasks and access to recorded sessions also add value to the package in a way generic YouTube videos or revision websites can't possibly. My daughter's confidence and enjoyment in learning about poetry has definitely grown thanks to this course and Robyn's approach."

"M has really enjoyed the poetry course (and poetry is not her favourite part of the English syllabus so that’s saying something!). She’s found the sessions with you engaging - she looks forward to them and  they’ve really opened up the poems and thinking about them critically for her. It’s made a big difference to the way she is approaching this bit of English lit in her GCSE year - thank you!"

'Very personable and efficient, my son actively looks forward to his weekly sessions as he is learning a lot and gaining confidence. I would highly recommend Robyn.'

TIME

I teach 1-2-1 all the time - and the problem I come up against time after time is, well, time!

Time to get through the content as well as to practice the skills.

A time that works around everyone's schedules.

(And I'm not the parent wondering if they could do something better with the time driving back and forth and the hour the student is with me!)

Everyone needs to use their time wisely - this course makes the best use of everyone's.

How?

By harnessing the power of flipped learning.  A significant part of the course is online for students to complete in the own time.  So - instead of taking 12 weeks to get through, we can do it in 8.

The weekly live sessions bring students together to focus and develop their skills - no driving needed!

Hi, I'm Robyn

I'm a fully qualified and highly experienced English teacher and tutor.

Students come to me for help all the time, confused - and demotivated - during their GCSEs.  The guides are unengaging, they're overwhelmed by the content on the internet and haven't a clue where to start!

I'm all about building their knowledge, skills and confidence together.

VALUE

1-2-1 is expensive - an hour costs £50.

And, as the parent, just think for a moment what the time spent driving to and from tutoring costs you - not just fuel and stress, but all the other things you could be doing instead.

I'm offering the course at £375 - that is less than the price of eight 1-2-1 sessions.

For that you get access to videos teaching each of the poems.

A weekly live lesson with 5 other students.

All assignments marked with detailed feedback.

Two full essays marked.

I know signing up with a new person can be daunting - so, to take the fear out of it - if you don't think it's good value after the first two sessions, I'll refund you for the remainder of the course.
